Attention to any Student interested in Wrestling

Environmental Club

The Environmental Club is trying to help out an organization called Team Seas.  They raise money that helps remove plastic from the ocean and rivers.  We are asking you to help out! For every dollar you give, One pound of plastic trash will be removed from the ocean. We are trying to raise $1,000.00 for each grade starting this Tuesday, November 30 through December 22.  If everyone chips in, our goal will be reached in a jiffy.  At lunch, you can find your grade buckets with the help of your Environmental Club and donate.  There is no limit!! Every penny is appreciated!  This is optional.  But it would help our Earth.  Go Team Seas.

Attention Students

Jamele Adams,  the SPS DEI Director will be in the Black Box Theater today(12/1) from 2:30-3:00 for any students who want to connect with him.  Anyone is welcome.

Math Club

Gates Math Club starts this Wednesday(12/1)!!!  We will meet in Mrs. Gaziano's room from 2:45-3:30 every Wednesday.  All grades and all math levels are welcome.  Come check it out.

Attention Students

Thanks to the Scituate Police Department for hosting weekly sessions with students on Wednesdays. 
The program has now ended. BUT stay tuned for new opportunities in the future!!

It's Spirit Week this week!!!
Be sure to show your school spirit by participating in each day's theme and bringing in canned goods or monetary donations for the Scituate Food Pantry.  Each homebase earns points for their team for our annual Spirit Rally taking place on Wednesday, November 24!

Wrestling
Wrestling is a fun and challenging sport offered to all students at Gates during the winter season.  Practice starts on Tuesday, December 7th and will run from 2:45-4:45 every Tuesday and Thursday  through mid-February.  Wrestlers will also have the opportunity to compete against other club and town teams.  There will be a short but important meeting for any students who are interested in joining the Gates Wrestling Team this Wednesday, November 17th in Room 2044.  Reach out to Mr. Robinson at brobinson@scit.org with any questions.

Yearbook Cover Contest Update
Thank you for all the yearbook cover submissions and congratulations to Emma McClory whose design will be on the cover and Nora Finkle whose design will be on the back of the yearbook.  Also, a congratulations to Mackenzie Johnson-Rees and August Ames, the yearbook club has also decided to use your artwork inside the book.  We will award all 4 artist with a free yearbook.  Congrats!!!
TIDES
Today(11/9) the TIDES Club, Gates diversity and equity club will meet afterschool in room 1029.  All are welcome to join if you haven't come to a meeting yet.  See Mrs. Newton with questions.

Mr. Beattie
Congratulations to Mr. Beattie!! Mr. Beattie was selected by a national organization, TCS, as one of only 50 teachers in the entire country to run in the New York City Marathon.  Mr. Beattie will represent Gates Middle School and will run the 26.2 miles this weekend in New York City.  If you see him today(11/5) wish him good luck and congratulations!!
Book Fair
This morning is the last chance to purchase books at the Gates Book Fair.  The book fair will close at 9 AM this morning(11/5) so please stop by to pick up books on hold and get those last purchases in.

SHS Football game
If you plan on attending tonight's(11/5) game at SHS, please be advised that this is a tournament game and that tickets must be purchased in advance on the SHS website.

Ms. Glover's 7th and 8th grade art Students
Just a reminder, if you have to finish your clay project please stay after school to complete them today(10/22) in Ms.  Glover's room.  They will NOT be available to work on past today(10/22).

There is NO Art Club today(10/21) after school because of our  early release.  Ms. Glover will see you all next week.

The Environmental Club will meet after school today(10/20) and prepare of tonight's bat observation at 5:40 P.M.

Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) Club

Surveys
We will extend homeroom until 8:05A.M to allow students to complete two surveys that were sent to their student email accounts.  Teachers, please hold students in homeroom until 8:05.

Cross Country Cancelled
Mr. English will be in the cafeteria to hand out transportation waivers for the Wednesday Meet today(Oct. 4th) after school.
Student Council

Art Club

Gates Cross Country
Their first meet of the season was yesterday.  The girls beat Weymouth by a score of 22-35(low score wins).  Top finishers were Alice Rowland, Grace Kroeger, Narissa Lipchitz, Molly Gould and Addy DuBois.  The boys lost in a close score of 25-31.  Top finishers were Bobby Naylor, Beckett Dowling, Caiden Hawkins, Micah Mulder, and Zeke Neskirk.  Gates students can still sign up.  See Mr. English with any questions.

Gates Drama
Gates Drama Improv troupe will begin meetings on Tuesday, October 12th from 2:30-3:30 in the Black Box!! Come by and practice your improv acting skills.  See Ms. Warwick with questions and join the Improv google classroom code: gch3v4r.

Next week, on Tuesday, September 28th, Gates will be holding its first TIDES Club. TIDES Club is  Gates' Diversity and Equity club, focusing on inclusion in our school community.  The club will be held on  Tuesdays after school from 2:30-3:30.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Newton in the Counseling Suite.  Also, join the TIDES google classroom with code srurgk2.

Just a reminder, students are not allowed to switch buses.  You must go home on your assigned bus.

Art Club
Attention students who enjoy making art and hanging out with friends!! Ms. Glover holds Art Club on Thursday  after school from 2:21- 3:30p.m.  If you are interested in creating and making any type of art, sign up for Art Club today in Room 1038. Space is limited, members will be chosen by lottery, if need be, Ms. Glover will post the final member list this THURSDAY.  If you can't make the Fall Session, there will be a  Spring Session sigh up in February!!

Announcements Week of September 13, 2021

This is a reminder for all students and staff that masks must be worn at all times while inside of Gates Middle School.  Masks must completely cover your nose and mouth.  Students are permitted to remove their masks only while seated at lunch and while outside on mask breaks.  Thanks for doing your part to keep everyone in our community healthy and safe!!

Attention Students:
Are you still having trouble opening your locker? Do you need extra practice and support? If so, join us on Friday after school in the Dining Commons for extra practice.  All are welcome to attend.  See Mr. Beattie with questions.

Cross Country Team
Join Gates Cross Country Team for Fitness, Friendship, and Fun.
Practice will be held on Mondays beginning on September 20th.  Practices will be held on both Monday and Wednesday with meets on Wednesdays.  Google classroom code is kp5yihp and is posted in all Team areas and near copiers.  See Mr. English with any questions.
