Executive Functioning

A parent evening focusing on Executive Functioning was held on October 22, 2019.  Attached are the slides which includes a brief explanation of what executive functions are, what is being done at Gates to build these skills and some strategies to be used at home to support these skills. Executive Functioning Parent Evening

Check list to be used at home to help students remember the materials they need for school.  This can help make mornings run more smoothly if students get in the habit of checking their list and getting their materials for the next day ready. Checklist for Gates

To help with time management, attached are two tools that can be used to help students map out their afternoon.  This helps student with scheduling, planning and prioritizing.  This is for students to complete with parent coaching. After School Scheduler and  Scheduling

ASPEN Check in sheet for students. As an alternative to having parents checking ASPEN and then reporting the grades and/or missing work to students, parents can ask students to log into their ASPEN account and complete this form.  This will allow for more of a conversion and helps students to develop their executive functioning skills, particularly, task initiation, problem solving, and planning and organizing.  It also increases student self-awareness, ability to be reflective and gives them ownership of their academics. Student Check in
